The power of theatre lies in the vulnerability of the artists who create it. These artists have to ability to transport us to other worlds in a way that is remarkable and inherently human. But this work doesn’t come without a cost. Most artists put so much of themselves into their work that they become emotionally and physically exhausted.

At Dirty Gold Theatre, to take care of the well-being of our artists, we infuse every aspect of our process with mindfulness. By bringing mindfulness practices into meetings, rehearsals, and productions, we provide artists with tools to continually reset their nervous systems and safely create their art.

Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally" (Jon Kabat-Zinn).

By employing mindfulness practices that bring us into the present moment such as meditation, yoga, and breath work, we invite artists to deepen their relationship with themselves so they are able to focus more on “being” than on “doing.”

Mindfulness for Performers Workshop

Are you a theatre artist who is interested in bringing mindfulness into your creative process? One of Dirty Gold’s founders, Rebecca Greaves, created a Mindfulness for Performers Workshop after completing her 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training and realizing how beneficial it would be to bring what she learned to the theatre. This workshop takes place over the course of an hour and a half during a production’s rehearsal process and anyone in the cast or crew is welcome to join. If you’d like to learn more and potentially bring this workshop to an upcoming project, please email us!
